Journey Management System
Simple • Compliant • Safe
While driving, your employees encounter countless hazards, making driving one of the most risky activities they will undertake.
Introducing Journey Management System (JMS), an end-to-end mobile and web application that enables staff members to submit a digital journey management plan to their managers to comply with any company travel HSE policy.
JMS uses the inbuilt GPS of a mobile device to track the live location, provide accurate ETA prediction and ultimately, track the safe arrival of your staff on their work related journeys. By using active GPS, JMS knows for certain if an employee has not arrived at an identified stop for their fatigue management break or final destination, and will notify managers immediately of any risk identified.
JMS automatically notifies a journey manager of staff arrival at their check-in points via SMS, email and mobile audio alerts.  Any missed journey check-in points based on an ETA, will result in an automatic escalation and notification, gaining you precious minutes in ensuring employee safety.
Other solutions rely on SMS for staff check-ins and timers for escalations. With JMS using the mobile phone GPS, you accurately know the realtime location and safety of all your users. More importantly, JMS does not require employees to reply with their status via an SMS, which may encourage a driver to reply while they are driving their vehicle.
Take advantage of the optional digital forms automation solution that is inbuilt within the JMS solution suite, allowing you to completely automate paper based and manual business workflows and replace any type of paper form. All available within the one application and included in all JMS accounts.
JMS has been built in consultation over many years with large industry players. It is available worldwide, can operate across multiple timezones and can be customised further to suit almost any business requirement.

See how Mitchell Services improved the safety of their staff with JMS
Journey Management is a key risk for many businesses, and one of our key areas of exposure is having a mobile workforce and a high number of commuters to our sites. To manage this risk, Mitchell Services have worked very closely with Ionyx in the development of their Journey Management System app solution. The app has been great for monitoring our mobilisations, and importantly for ensuring that our employees make it to work and back home safely. This implementation has worked because of the high level of engagement with our employees and the quality of support from Ionyx. We now use this application across all of our sites in all states.

JMS offers two journey plan modes that can be customised to suit any business size and HSSE policy

Short Distance Travel

JMS is perfect for short distance trips where an employee needs to advise a manager or team of their journey information. In this scenario, the manager is advised of their employees departure and ultimately their safe arrival. The manager would only be notified in the event the user has signalled an emergency situation using the SOS feature, or their arrival time has been missed by a pre-determined time frame. JMS offers public transport options, and now including Uber, all from within the JMS app.

Long Distance Travel

JMS can be customised to suit any company HSE policy for long distance travel that requires a risk assessment and journey manager approval prior to travel. In this scenario, the user fills out a journey plan, selects optional information such as client, company vehicle, passengers and then completes a risk assessment. JMS plans the journey, including recommended stop locations and the ETA for the final destination, then submits to their Journey Manager for review and final approval. Once approved, the user commences the journey and JMS manages all notifications for the approved departure time, fatigue stops, incidents, missed ETA, and their safe arrival.

How JMS Addresses End User Privacy Concerns

JMS enables GPS location services only at the start of a journey and ceases immediately upon the users safe arrival. JMS also advises users when their GPS location has been turned on and off. We have found this optional and transparent approach assists companies in addressing any “tracking and big brother” concerns when deploying this type of safety solution and has resulted in 100% uptake from all users.

Demonstrate your WHS due diligence with JMS

Health and safety legislation may vary between countries, however all employees have the legal right to be protected from risks within the workplace.

Data from the Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) indicates that vehicle accidents represent 41% of all compensated work fatalities.

Providing staff a safe work environment is a companies legal obligation, but more importantly, there should be a culture of safety where a company officer is aware of all their staff travel schedules.

With JMS, you can confidently answer the question “where are all your staff, and are they safe?”.

Journey Management is a two-part process aimed at minimising exposure to driving-related hazards, and preventing crashes and injuries. First, it’s a decision-making process used to avoid unnecessary driving. Second, for driving that is necessary, journey management procedures help manage the risks employees face while they are on the road.

Employers have a duty of care to their employees, which means that they should take all steps which are reasonably possible to ensure their health, safety, and wellbeing. Evidence about successful vehicle and driver safety programs point not just to vehicle selection and training, but also to the importance of safety to the organisation. A ‘culture of safety’ means that a high priority is given to safety and in addition, it is backed up by what people say and do. In many workplaces, work related driving is considered secondary to the ‘real’ work that the person does.

An employer can be deemed to have breached their duty of care by failing to do everything that was reasonable in the circumstances to keep the employee safe from harm. Employees also have responsibilities for their health and wellbeing at work – for example, they are entitled by law to refuse to undertake work that isn’t safe without fear of disciplinary action.

Legally, employers must abide by relevant health & safety and employment law, as well as the common law duty of care. They also have a moral and ethical duty not to cause, or fail to prevent, physical or psychological injury and must fulfil their responsibilities with regard to personal injury and negligence claims.

JMS will help demonstrate your WHS due diligence obligations for your organisation.
